An early Huntley and Palmer collectable biscuit tin in the shape of a green and brown pedastal, with four female figures in classical costume in the niches on each side.
It dates from 1909.
"Every year the designers at Huntley, Boorne & Stevens would produce mock-up designs of tins which the directors would view and hopefully select a range of designs to be produced that year. In 1909 a vase was put forward as a tin impressively displayed upon this marble plinth. Apparently the director knocked the vase of the plinth and chose the plinth instead. This tin went on to become one of Huntley & Palmers most popular tins and was replicated the following year by the issue of the 'Statuary' tin. 50,000 copies of this tin were produced."
It is 7 x 5 x 5" and other than a few minor scratches and a bit of fading is still in very good condition for its age.
